The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) is pleased to announce the launch of the Youth Art Competition in the context of the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction 2024. The theme for this year's competition is "Empowering the Next Generation for a Resilient Future."
Theme
The competition theme is "Empowering the Next Generation for a Resilient Future: A Creative Response to Disaster Risk." Artists are encouraged to explore various aspects of Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) in alignment with the Africa Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction's theme "Act Now for the Resilient Africa We Want."
Reward
The overall winner will receive an invitation to attend the Africa Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction, with travel and accommodation covered. Additionally, the top 30 participants will have their art pieces showcased at the Africa Regional Platform.
Eligible Art Types
Participants can submit the following types of art:
- Photography: JPEG or PNG, minimum 300 DPI
- Video: MP4 or MOV, minimum 720p (HD), maximum 3 minutes
- Audio: Ensure clear and audible audio
- Painting/Drawing: JPEG or PNG, minimum 300 DPI
- Sculpture: Specify materials used and submit high-quality digital images capturing the details effectively
Evaluation Criteria
Submissions will be evaluated based on:
- Visual Impact: Emotional resonance, clarity of message, storytelling, and visual appeal
- Technical Skill: Photography (exposure, focus, composition), Videography (editing, sound), Painting (color, brushwork), Sculpture (materials, design)
- Relevance to Theme: Direct relation to disaster risk reduction, impact, and innovation
Eligibility Criteria
The competition is open to young individuals aged 18 to 35 from across Africa. This initiative aims to amplify their perspectives and experiences in addressing climate challenges.
