Overview
The Industry Fellowship is part of the Royal Society's broader Science and Industry Programme, aiming to bridge the gap between academia, industry, and government by supporting the mobility of researchers across sectors within the UK.
Aims
- Support the mobility of excellent academic or industry researchers between the two sectors in the UK.
- Enable the fellow to develop and establish new collaborative links between academic and industry organisations, potentially leading to long-term collaborations.
- Support the career development of the fellow through cross-sector collaborative research experience.
- Enhance knowledge exchange in science and technology between industry and academia.

Funding Information
Funding includes:
- The fellow’s basic salary for the duration of the secondment. The employing institution should continue to pay national insurance and pension contributions.
- Research expenses of up to £4,000 per year, including research consumables and travel/accommodation costs between partner and host organisations. A £2,000 summer studentship per annum can be requested.
Ineligible expenses include publication costs, computer hardware, bench fees, conference fees, and travel/accommodation for conferences.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants can be of any nationality and should benefit from strengthening links between academia and industry.
- Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent standing and have a permanent post or ‘open-ended contract’ in a UK university, not-for-profit research organisation, or UK industry.
- Fellowships must support new collaborations. Ongoing collaborations require a new project with a different university/industry department.
- Concurrent applications to the Royal Society Industry Fellowship and the Royal Society Short Industry Fellowship are not allowed. Former Short Industry Fellowship holders are encouraged to apply for longer-term collaborations.
