The Gelia Castillo Award for Research on Social Innovations in Health (Philippines)

Researchers and innovators from the Philippines showcasing impactful health system solutions for the GCARSIH award.

Submissions are now open for the Gelia Castillo Award for Research on Social Innovations in Health (GCARSIH), which aims to recognize outstanding social innovations addressing persistent societal and health system challenges. This award highlights how such innovations impact health systems and provides insights into scaling up effective interventions.

About the Award

Social innovations in health (SIH) are defined as new solutions—products, services, models, market mechanisms, or processes—developed by multi-sectoral health system actors. These innovations should address health needs more effectively than existing methods and enhance people's ability to take ownership of their health. They have the potential to transform health systems by strengthening relationships between individuals and optimizing resource use.

Prize Information

The top innovations will receive:

  • PHP 300,000 for 1st place
  • PHP 200,000 for 2nd place
  • PHP 100,000 for 3rd place

In addition, winners will be eligible for funding for a research and development project, and will receive a training and mentoring package with subject matter experts to further expand and scale their projects. The package is designed to help top innovation teams create research proposals for additional funding opportunities.

Eligibility Criteria

The award is open to all individuals, groups, and institutions that have successfully developed and implemented social innovations in health within the Philippines. Eligible participants include:

  • Public or private institutions
  • Consortium members
