Journalists are encouraged to submit ideas that may cover the following topics:
- Implementation of national laws for whistleblowing protection
- Examples of good or poor whistleblower protection
- Possible improvements to national whistleblower legislation
- Obstacles faced by whistleblowers and the media
- The reliability of whistleblowers as a source for media
- Areas where whistleblowing can prevent corruption and organized crime
- The culture and perception of whistleblowing
- Challenges faced by journalists in working with whistleblowers
- Successful cooperation between media and whistleblowers
- Powerful examples of whistleblowers holding authorities accountable
Funding Information
- Grant Amount: $500 for an article of 1200 to 1500 words
- Articles will be published in the Whistleblowing Chronicles after approval
Eligibility Countries
Journalists from the following countries are eligible to submit pitches:
- Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Kosovo, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Ukraine
Eligibility Criteria
- The authors of shortlisted pitches will be invited to develop their stories exclusively for this call.
- Final drafts will be edited and proofread by the editorial team, with changes communicated to the authors before publication.
- Once published in the Whistleblower Journal, authors can publish their articles in national media or on social networks, with acknowledgment of the Southeast Europe Coalition’s support.
- The best story of the 2nd round will be awarded during the Coalition’s Annual Meeting.
