Submit Applications for Max Weber Fellowships

The Max Weber Programme at the European University Institute (EUI) is accepting applications for its fellowships. This programme is open to applicants from anywhere in the world, regardless of nationality, who are within 5 years of completing their PhD. The focus is on historical and social sciences in Europe.

Funding Information

Selected Fellows will benefit from:

  • Basic Grant: 2,500 EUR per month
  • Family Allowance: Up to 310 EUR per month for a partner, and 210 EUR per month for each dependent child if living with the Fellow in Florence. Conditions apply regarding income and documentation.
  • Research Expenses: 1,000 EUR per year for eligible research expenses such as conference attendance. Fellows on the job market can apply for an additional 1,000 EUR for relevant conference participation or job interviews.
  • Travel Expenses: Reimbursement for incoming and outgoing travel to Florence, up to 1,200 EUR, including first-class rail or economy air fare. Taxi expenses are not reimbursed.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible, candidates must:

  • Be of any nationality
  • Have received their Ph.D. within the past 5 years or have official approval to defend their thesis by the start of the programme (1 September)
  • Not be currently enrolled in the EUI Doctoral Programme or employed by EUI, unless they have been continuously away from EUI in a full-time occupation or fellowship for at least one year
  • Have a proficiency in English at level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR)

Extensions to the five-year rule are allowed for interruptions due to maternity/paternity leave, illness, or mandatory military service. Proof of English proficiency may be required upon registration.
