Overview of Disaster Risk Management

Disaster Risk Management is an approach aimed at creating a resilient society by mitigating the impact of natural and man-made disasters on life, property, the environment, and cultural heritage. This includes disaster prevention, risk mitigation, preparedness, post-disaster intervention, recovery, and reconstruction.

Program Priorities, Target Groups, and Application Locations

The sub-grant application targets two main audiences:

Target Audience 1:

NGOs working in the disaster areas affected by the 2023 Kahramanmaraş earthquakes.

  • Priority Areas:
    • Strengthening local communities' capacity in disaster risk management and creating new initiatives.
    • Supporting a rights-based approach and promoting universal humanitarian standards in disaster risk management.

    Projects must be implemented in one or more of the provinces affected by the Kahramanmaraş earthquakes: Kahramanmaraş, Hatay, Adıyaman, Osmaniye, Gaziantep, Şanlıurfa, Malatya, Diyarbakır, Adana, Kilis, and Elazığ.

Target Audience 2:

NGOs focusing on capacity development in disaster risk management and working in key rights areas such as gender equality, children's rights, nature protection, and refugee rights.

  • Priority Areas:
    • Strengthening the capacity of rights-based civil society organizations in disaster risk management.
    • Developing organizational structures and increasing capacity in networking and volunteer management.

Funding Information

The total grant amount available is 600,000 Euros. The grant amount per project must range between 15,000 to 30,000 Euros.

Project Duration

The project implementation period must be between 9 and 14 months.

Eligibility Criteria

  • NGOs must have legal personality.
  • Eligible NGOs include associations, foundations, federations, and confederations.
  • NGOs must have a maximum of 30 full- or part-time employees as of June 2024.
  • Applicants must include at least one male member on their board of directors.
