Category: Fellowship

Background

Tibetan society has experienced profound changes over the last 60 years, particularly concerning displacement and shifts in cultural identity. Today, over 150,000 Tibetans live outside Tibet in various countries including India, Nepal, Bhutan, North America, and Europe. Despite the challenges posed by China’s occupation of Tibet and its repressive cultural policies, Tibetan artists continue to produce powerful works in visual arts, film, music, and writing that address their experiences and responses to these pressures. The fellowship seeks to support and recognize Tibetan artists who contribute to societal dialogue through their creative work.

Funding Information

The total grant amount available in 2024 is $20,000. Individual projects can receive funding ranging from $500 to $3,000.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligible applicants are Tibetans from any country. Tibetans working for organizations may apply on behalf of the organization, provided that the applicant plays a central role in the project. Non-Tibetans are not eligible for this fellowship. Selection will be based on the merit of the applicant’s work and their ability to achieve the stated goals. The fellowship supports applicants at all career stages, from emerging to established professionals, and encourages submissions of current needs and innovative ideas. Please note that the fellowship does not cover conferences, workshops, exhibitions, or app development.
