Funding Information

The maximum grant amount available is AUD 60,000 (or its USD equivalent). Projects funded under this program should be completed within one year from the date the grant agreement is signed.

Eligible Activities

DAP focuses on projects that deliver practical and tangible outcomes with a significant development impact. The program welcomes initiatives that could act as catalysts for further community development or serve as models for similar projects in other areas. Proposals with a focus on disability are particularly encouraged.

Priority Areas for 2024-25:

  • Climate action, renewable energy, environmental protection, and promoting biodiversity
  • Governance, education, and economic empowerment
  • Gender equality, social inclusion, and the protection of minority and human rights
  • Disaster resilience and livelihoods, including food, water, and health security

Applicants may also seek funding for development projects in other thematic areas.

Ineligible Activities

The following activities are not eligible for funding under the DAP:

  • Australian or overseas study tours
  • International travel, except in rare cases where it is a small component of the overall budget
  • Grants programs managed by other governments or organizations
  • Micro-credit schemes or projects involving the return of money or loans for cash
  • Salaries or fees for permanent staff
  • Commercial ventures
  • Purchase or rental of major assets, including property or land
  • Purchase of vehicles, except in exceptional cases like medical, emergency, or farming vehicles
  • Routine, recurring, or operational costs of the applicant organization, including staff salaries, office rental, utility costs, spare parts, office supplies, and routine maintenance and repairs
  • Administrative costs not directly related to project implementation
  • Commemorative events, sporting tournaments, or cultural displays without clear developmental outcomes
  • Direct support to governments

Note: Projects with ineligible components may still be considered if the proposal clearly outlines how these components will be funded through other sources.

Eligibility Criteria

DAP funds are available on a not-for-profit basis to registered community groups, NGOs, and other entities engaged in development activities in Mauritius (including Rodrigues), Comoros, and Madagascar. Projects with a regional dimension are also welcomed. Regional projects that include Seychelles may be considered, provided there are other funding sources for Seychelles (as it is currently not eligible for overseas development assistance).
