Program Objectives
The Water Research Foundation (WRF) is seeking applications for the Assessing Changing Salinity in Water Sources Program, which aims to:
- Conduct a regional assessment of salinity impacts on drinking water sources, treatment processes, and water reuse applications.
- Provide a review of current real-time measurement parameters, research, and assessments by national and international organizations.
- Investigate the sources of salinity and their contributions to drinking water sources through case studies or modeling.
- Develop educational materials for the water sector to communicate the risks of increased salinity and solutions to mitigate the problem.
Funding Information
The maximum funding available for this project is $150,000. Applicants must contribute additional resources equivalent to at least 33% of the requested amount. Acceptable forms of contribution include cost share, applicant in-kind, or third-party in-kind contributions, compliant with 2 CFR Part 200.306 cost sharing regulations.
The anticipated period of performance for the project is 24 months from the contract start date.
Expected Deliverables
- A summary and comparative database on federal and state salt ion surface water standards and permit limits.
- A review of successful case studies on source control of salts for various ions.
- Guidelines on conducting watershed mass balances and source identification.
- Communication and educational materials for the water sector.
Additional deliverables may include:
- Modelling results on Total Dissolved Solids (TDS)/salinity inputs and outputs.
- Reports on salinity source types and summaries from other national/regional entities.
Eligibility Criteria
Proposals will be accepted from both U.S. and non-U.S. entities, including:
- Educational institutions
- Research organizations
- Governmental agencies
- Consultants and other for-profit entities
Researchers currently late on WRF-sponsored studies without approved no-cost extensions are not eligible to participate in any proposals.
