Open Call: Small Business Grant Scheme (United Kingdom)

: South Cambridgeshire businesses can apply for up to £5,000 to support growth and innovation. Apply by October 31, 2024.


The South Cambridgeshire District Council is now accepting applications for the Small Business Grant Scheme. This grant aims to support new and existing businesses in South Cambridgeshire, helping startups and those looking to grow.

Free Business Support

Support is available for those looking to start a new business, in partnership with the Business and Intellectual Property Centre (BIPC) and The Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority (CPCA) Growth Hub. These partners offer:

  • Advice to ensure a new business is viable.
  • Guidance on creating a business plan.
  • Support on how to market a business.

New businesses will become eligible to apply for funding only after they have been registered as trading.

Funding Information

The maximum grant available to any successful applicant is £5,000. Grants will be awarded based on the merit of the supporting application, and funds will be allocated as they become available. The Council reserves the right to close the scheme once all funds are allocated.

Eligible Uses for the Grant

  • Website development
  • Brand development
  • Marketing campaigns
  • Training for staff upskilling
  • Commissioning of research
  • Purchase of machinery and associated tooling
  • Purchase of office or technical equipment
  • Electric vehicles for business use
  • Purchase of IT hardware
  • Renovating business premises (including furnishings)

Eligibility Criteria

Businesses must meet the following criteria:

  • Be located in South Cambridgeshire.
  • Employ between 0-9 staff.
  • Have a business plan demonstrating innovation and growth within the next two years.
  • Provide evidence of how the funding will be used.
  • Show how the funding will be used to adopt new technologies and adjust to changing market conditions (where applicable).
  • Detail the number of jobs safeguarded or created.
  • Highlight the benefit to the local economy.
  • Demonstrate steps taken towards net-zero carbon and decarbonisation.

Exclusions

The following are not eligible for this grant:

  • Businesses that have already received the maximum allowable funding under Subsidy Control.
  • Business intermediaries applying on behalf of other businesses.
  • Partnerships operating for investment or where a striking off notice has been issued.
  • Businesses seeking to use the funding as a wage support mechanism.
