The Nanjing International Writers Residency is inviting applications for its 2024 program, aiming to connect Nanjing’s literary community with international writers, poets, and translators. This residency program offers a unique opportunity to experience life in one of China’s most historically rich and culturally vibrant cities.

Program Overview

Nanjing, with its literary tradition spanning over 1800 years, offers an inspiring backdrop for literary exploration. The city’s historical significance and diverse culture make it an ideal setting for creative endeavors.

Theme

The theme for the 2024 program is “Life is Better with Literature”. This theme emphasizes the relationship between daily life and literature, inviting writers to draw inspiration from Nanjing’s rich cultural and historical tapestry.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be connected to a UNESCO City of Literature (resident, work, study, or recognized connection).
  • At least three years of writing experience, or one published work, or recognized awards in literary communities.
  • Willingness to engage with Nanjing’s literary community and participate in local activities.
  • Ability to write in English or translate Chinese works into English. The written work must be inspired by the residency.
  • Fluency in spoken English or Chinese.
