Open Call: EIT RIS Straight to Market (S2M) Programme

The European Institute of Innovation & Technology (EIT) is inviting applications for the RIS Straight to Market programme. This initiative supports small and medium-sized companies (SMEs), start-ups, and scale-ups in bringing new food products to market, focusing on nutritional and sustainability improvements.

Mission

Healthier Lives Through Food

  • Increasing the availability of food products with improved nutritional profiles.
  • Reducing levels of salt, sugar, or trans and saturated fats in food products.
  • Encouraging the use of innovative products or services that align with national dietary guidelines.

Net Zero Food System

  • Reducing CO2 and other environmental impacts in the food system.
  • Increasing the use of food waste or side-streams in food production.
  • Promoting products that use alternative or new ingredients to improve environmental outcomes.

Fully Transparent, Fair, and Resilient Food Supply

  • Reducing the cost burden of food insecurity and safety issues.
  • Adopting packaging and technology to improve transparency and traceability in the food system.

Programme Goals

The programme seeks innovative food products that are new or highly improved in terms of nutrition and sustainability. This includes enhancements in ingredients, packaging, nutritional profiles, and other innovative features. The aim is to support the successful market launch of at least one new food product per company, aligning with EIT Food’s impact framework.

Duration

All activities for the 2024 edition must be completed by December 1, 2024. Product market introduction is expected by July 1, 2025. The final reports, including sales invoices and dissemination details, are due by December 1, 2025.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Open to startups, scale-ups, and SMEs from targeted RIS countries including Cyprus, Greece, Italy, Malta, Portugal, Spain, Turkey, and other Outermost Regions.
  • Applicants must be legal entities in Southern European RIS countries.
  • Companies must be classified as SMALL (3-49 employees and less than €10 million turnover or balance sheet).
  • Proposals must be complete, submitted on time, and include all mandatory documents in English.
  • Propose a near-to-market food product with proven consumer added-value and increased health/sustainability properties.
  • Commit to delivering at least one marketed innovation with documented sales revenue of at least €10,000 by June 2024.
