Purpose

The Ontario Arts Council (OAC) is offering the Music Organizations Operating Grant Program to support the ongoing operations of Ontario-based not-for-profit and for-profit music organizations. Eligible organizations include:

  • Opera companies
  • Orchestras (including semi-professional and nationally designated youth training)
  • Choral organizations (including semi-professional, community choirs, training organizations)
  • Music-mandated producers and presenters (e.g., series, festivals, contemporary music organizations)

Priorities

Funding priorities include:

  • Engaging Ontario and Canadian professional musicians and supporting the work of Canadian composers and songwriters.
  • Supporting public access to diverse music forms and developing audiences.
  • Contributing to arts education, public participation, and community involvement in the arts.
  • Advancing the development of music in Ontario.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligible applicants must be Ontario-based, not-for-profit corporations or national not-for-profit corporations with a head office in Ontario. Organizations must meet the following criteria:

  • Minimum revenue requirements: $75,000 for most applicants, $100,000 for opera companies, and $200,000 for orchestras.
  • At least two years of sustained, regular programming.
  • A range of revenue sources and an active board of directors/governing body.
  • Music organizations must support Canadian music and reflect a defined artistic mandate.
  • Orchestras and choral organizations must provide evidence of professional artistic leadership.
  • Opera companies must focus on professional opera and produce a minimum of two operas per season.
  • Music festivals must have concentrated core programming.

Ineligibility Criteria

Ineligible applicants include:

  • Non-arts organizations
  • Municipalities, colleges, universities, and presenting facilities
  • Organizations attached to or part of religious institutions
  • Entertainment/variety presenters, trade shows, and conferences
  • Music competitions
