The Freedom Prize is inviting young people aged 15 to 25 from France and around the world to choose an inspiring person or organisation committed to an exemplary fight for freedom.
About the Prize
The Freedom Prize is an educational initiative that raises awareness of freedom, peace, and human rights, inspired by the values of the D-Day landings of 6 June 1944 in Normandy. What makes this prize special is that it involves young people at each stage: from proposals to the international panel of judges, leading to the final selection of the laureate.
Organisers
Organised by the Normandy Region, and implemented with the International Institute of Human Rights and Peace, in partnership with the academic authorities of Normandy and the Canopé network, the Freedom Prize pays tribute to those who have fought and continue to fight for freedom.
Key Stages
- Call for Proposals: Young people aged 15-25 are invited to present a person or organisation whose fight for freedom they wish to highlight using an online form. The candidate must have carried out a concrete action for freedom in the last three years.
- International Panel of Judges: A jury of 24 young people aged 15-25 will meet in Normandy to consider applications and select three nominees for the online vote. The jury deliberates between February 12-16, 2024.
- Online Vote: Young people aged 15-25 from around the world will vote online to select the final laureate from the three nominees.
Eligibility Criteria
Young people aged 15-25 can propose a person or organisation engaged in the fight for freedom, using an online form. The person or organisation must have carried out at least one concrete action within the last three years.
