Purpose
The purpose of the NMBCA is to:

Funding Information
The maximum request per proposal is US$250,000 for a two-year project, or US$125,000 for a one-year project.

Projects may be carried out in the U.S.A., Canada, or most countries or territories in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Duration
The applicant can choose a funding period of either one or two years. The grant project period typically starts on the grant award date or on July 1, with announcements occurring between May and July.
Outcomes
Desired conservation outcomes include:
- Self-sustaining and viable populations of neotropical migratory birds.
- Enhancement of neotropical migratory bird habitat through conservation and restoration.
- Protection of neotropical migratory bird habitat at levels sufficient to sustain healthy populations.
- Successful implementation of conservation strategies, preventing extinction and improving conservation status.
- Effective implementation of alternative sustainable livelihood schemes by local communities.
Eligible Projects
Eligible activities for funding include:
- Protection and management of neotropical migratory bird populations.
- Maintenance, management, protection, and restoration of bird habitat.
- Research and monitoring.
- Law enforcement.
- Community outreach and education.
Eligibility Criteria
The grant is open to the following entities:
- Individuals, corporations, partnerships, trusts, associations, or other private entities.
- Officers, employees, agents, or departments of Federal, state, or foreign governments.
- States, municipalities, or political subdivisions of a state.
- Other entities subject to the jurisdiction of the U.S. or any foreign country.
- International organizations.
Ineligibility Criteria
The following categories are ineligible for grant funding:
- General contingency costs.
- Principal contributed to endowment funds.
- Financing.
- Costs not pre-approved by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service or not in the application.
