Starting in 2024, the foundation will also be changing the name of the award to make it more attractive.

  • Ichiro Tanaka Award: ¥3,000,000 (formerly "Gold Award")
  • Innovative Precious Metals Award: ¥1,000,000 (formerly known as the Silver Award)
  • KIRAMEKI Award: ¥1,000,000 (formerly "Young Researcher Award")
  • HIRAMEKI Award: ¥300,000 (formerly “TANAKA Special Award”)

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Applications must be from researchers (including postdoctoral researchers) affiliated with educational institutions (universities, graduate schools, technical colleges), national or public research institutions, or research groups belonging to domestic academic societies in Japan.
  • The research must be new and utilize or be applicable to precious metals, contributing to a sustainable future. It should meet one of the following criteria:
    • New technology related to precious metals (e.g., new materials, processing methods, process development)
    • Revolutionary advances in product development (e.g., new functions, process development, computational science)
    • Development of new products using precious metals
