The International Labour Organization (ILO) is excited to announce the tenth edition of its annual Global Media Competition, celebrating outstanding media reports on labour migration.

Aims

The competition seeks to counter negative and stereotypical public narratives that fuel discrimination and abusive practices against migrant workers. It aims to recognize fair and balanced media reporting that portrays the multidimensional aspects of migrant workers' lives positively.

Award Information

Professional Award

  • Categories: Three prizes for labour migration reporting and one prize for reporting on forced labour and trafficking.
  • Prize Options: Winners can choose between:
    • A paid fellowship for an online ITC-Turin course on fair recruitment, forced labour, or labour migration in 2025.
    • A cash prize of $1,200 USD.

Student Award

  • Category: One prize for exemplary reporting on labour migration.
  • Prize Options: Winners can choose between:
    • A paid fellowship for an online ITC-Turin course on fair recruitment, forced labour, or labour migration in 2025.
    • A cash prize of $500 USD.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Professional Awards: Open to media professionals and journalists aged 18 and over.
  • Student Award: Open to students currently enrolled in journalism programs.
  • Participants must submit entries via the Online Entry Form; postal or email submissions are not accepted.
  • Entries should fall into one of two categories: Professional or Student, and can include written press, photo essays, multimedia, video, or radio.
  • Published submissions must not exceed 8,000 words or 25 minutes for multimedia. Unpublished submissions by students have no time limit.
  • Each participant can submit a maximum of two entries.
  • Entries must be in English, French, or Spanish or include translations if in other languages. Translations must be faithful to the original content.
