Global Business Innovation Programme in Japan (UK)

Innovate UK invites ambitious UK-based companies in the Semiconductors sector to apply for the Global Business Innovation Programme in Japan. This programme is designed to help UK businesses grow and scale internationally by fostering R&D and innovation collaborations.

Programme Overview

The Global Business Innovation Programme is structured around three main stages:

1. Get Ready: A two-day workshop to enhance understanding of the Japanese market, including business practices, cultural aspects, IP protection, and effective value proposition communication.
2. Visit the Market: A 5-day innovation visit to Japan, including meetings with key stakeholders, research organisations, and potential partners, facilitated through pre-arranged meetings and matchmaking.
3. Exploit the Opportunity: An exploitation workshop and one-to-one support from an Innovate UK Business Growth innovation & growth specialist to maximise the identified opportunities.

Focus Themes

Applications are welcome from innovative semiconductor companies working in areas such as:

• Power Systems
• Automotive
• Telecoms
• Sensors
• Datacentres
• High Performance Compute

Technologies of interest include, but are not limited to:

• Compound/WBG Semiconductors
• Heterogeneous/Hybrid Integration
• Advanced Packaging
• Photonics (including Silicon Photonics)
• Design/IP
• Advanced Materials
• Manufacture/Processing

Benefits of the Programme

• Innovate UK will cover flights, accommodation, in-market travel, and conference fees for one senior representative per company.
• Reasonable adjustments will be funded as required throughout the initiative.
• A £1,000 commitment fee is required, refundable upon completion of all activities and agreed work plan. Non-completion may result in forfeiting the fee.

Eligibility Criteria

To apply, your company must:

• Be a UK-based innovation-led company with ambitions to grow internationally.
• Have fewer than 250 employees.
• Have a CEO, founder, or senior decision maker available to attend and complete all activities.
