The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is launching the Brownfield Cleanup Grant Program to support communities historically impacted by economic disinvestment, health disparities, and environmental contamination. This program aims to help revitalize brownfield properties, mitigate health risks, and restore economic vitality.
Funding Information
The total funding available for Cleanup Grants is approximately $100 million. EPA plans to award:
- Up to 30 Cleanup Grants for projects up to $500,000
- Up to 23 Cleanup Grants for projects between $500,001 and $2,000,000
- Up to 10 Cleanup Grants for projects between $2,000,001 and $4,000,000
Duration
The project period for Cleanup Grants is up to four years.
Expected Outcomes
- Number of jobs created and funding leveraged through economic reuse
- Acres made ready for reuse
- Acres of greenspace created for communities
- Minimized exposure to hazardous substances and petroleum contamination
Eligibility Criteria
Eligible entities include:
- General Purpose Units of Local Government
- Land Clearance Authorities or quasi-governmental entities supervised by General-Purpose Units of Local Government
- Government Entities created by State Legislature
- Regional Councils or groups of General-Purpose Units of Local Government
- Redevelopment Agencies chartered or sanctioned by a state
- Federally recognized Indian Tribes (excluding those in Alaska, except Metlakatla Indian Community)
- Alaska Native Regional Corporations, Alaska Native Village Corporations, and Metlakatla Indian Community
