The Nature Forward is offering the Crowder Messersmith Conservation Grant Program to support small, local conservation and education projects in developing countries. This grant provides seed money to communities and individuals whose projects have not yet attracted significant support from other sources.
Funding Information
The maximum grant amount is $3,000 USD for one year.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible, projects must:
- Focus on nature conservation and education
- Benefit endangered or threatened species or habitat
- Include a public education component
- Involve the local population
- Have lasting significance for local residents
- Be completed within one year
Preference will be given to applicants with a record of prior conservation action relevant to the proposed project. Applicants from countries other than the United States are especially encouraged to apply. U.S. researchers planning work in foreign countries must have at least one local collaborator and consider how the project will benefit local communities.
Ineligibility Criteria
Funding will not be provided for:
- Projects in the United States or other advanced economies
- Pure scientific research or data gathering with no clear conservation benefit
- Expeditions, especially if the applicant needs to raise funds to participate
- Projects that are a minor part of a large-scale project with significant financial support
- International travel, overhead expenses, taxes, utilities, or insurance
- Money transfers to individual accounts
