The U.S. Mission to Vietnam is seeking candidates for the 2025 Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) Professional Fellows Program. This program focuses on Civic Engagement, Innovation, Entrepreneurship, Economic Empowerment, Society and Governance, and Sustainability and the Environment.

Program Overview

The Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) is a public diplomacy program aimed at advancing regional strategic goals, bridging barriers among emerging leaders in Southeast Asia, and connecting them with the United States.

The YSEALI Professional Fellows Program (YSEALI PFP) is a two-way exchange initiative designed to promote mutual understanding, enhance leadership and professional skills, and foster lasting and sustainable partnerships between emerging leaders in Southeast Asia and the United States.

Themes

Applications may be assigned to one of the following themes or cycles:

  • Civic Engagement Institutes: Support professionals involved in non-governmental management, community development, advocacy, education, media and journalism, law, health equity, youth initiatives, and civic activism. Topics include NGO management, community outreach, strategic partnerships, conflict resolution, social justice, and advocacy programs.
  • Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Economic Empowerment Institutes: Support professionals in small and medium-sized business development, business administration, economic development policy, social entrepreneurship, and community training programs. Topics include entrepreneurship, global competency, economic empowerment, and sustainable economic development.
  • Society and Governance Institutes: Support professionals in legislative processes, governance, public administration, policy making, fiscal management, public-private partnerships, public safety, and law reform. Topics include rule of law, access to justice, anti-corruption, transparency, and fiscal management.
  • Sustainability and the Environment Institutes: Support professionals in food and water security, public health, ecotourism, energy, housing, transportation, natural disaster response, and waste management. Topics include grassroots activism, environmental policy, sustainable development, and corporate social responsibility.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Be a citizen and current resident of Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, or Vietnam.
  • Be a mid-level professional aged 25 to 35 years old at the start of the program.
  • Be currently employed with at least two years of relevant professional work experience.
  • Be self-directed with demonstrated leadership and collaborative skills, able to work effectively in a cross-cultural setting.
  • Identify an objective or project to implement in your home workplace or community.
  • Have proficiency in written and oral English.
