Program Overview

This highly prestigious fellowship is tenable in Research Institutions/Universities, including non-profit R & D institutions, anywhere in India. It is awarded under the National Programme for Nano Science and Technology (NPNST) of the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India.

Funding Information

The fellowship includes:

  • A consolidated monthly stipend of Rs. 60,000/- per month plus applicable HRA.
  • A research contingency grant of Rs. 2,00,000/- per annum.
  • The fellowship is tenable for a maximum of 2 years, with an exceptional extension for a third year based on research progress.
  • Candidates who have submitted their Ph.D. thesis but are yet to be awarded the Ph.D. degree will be paid Rs. 45,000/- per month plus applicable HRA until the award of the degree.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree in Science or Engineering or have submitted a Ph.D. thesis with a research interest in Nano Science and Technology.
  • They should have an excellent academic record and be under 40 years of age.
  • This fellowship is intended for researchers working in new areas and laboratories, other than where they obtained their doctorate.

Selection Criteria

The candidates will be selected based on:

  • Scrutiny of their bio-data, research proposal, recommendation letters, and performance in the interview.
  • Academic and research record.
  • The merit of the proposed research in Nano Science.
  • The facilities available at the host institution for the proposed research.

If selected, the candidate must join the host institution/university within two months of accepting the fellowship.
