UN Women invites civil society organizations (CSOs) and networks in North Macedonia with expertise in gender equality and participatory processes to submit project proposals.

Focus Areas
Proposals should address the following areas:
- Building capacities of local grassroots/women CSOs to promote inclusive participation of women in local policy and decision-making processes.
- Improving CSOs’ knowledge of gender mainstreaming in local policy making and budgeting processes.
- Strengthening cooperation and networking between local grassroots/women CSOs and activists.
- Providing sub-grants to local CSOs for outreach and empowerment initiatives to increase women’s participation in local decision-making processes.
- Proposing actions to mobilize and encourage local women to demand accountability from local authorities.
- Innovative approaches to drive change in attitudes towards women’s participation in public life.
- Involving local gender advocates and women leaders in outreach and advocacy activities.
- Supporting women to develop and submit policy proposals and advocate for them.
- Facilitating cooperation between municipalities and women to address their needs and priorities.
- Monitoring the adoption of policy proposals and documenting success stories.
Funding Information
The budget range for this proposal is between 100,000 USD and 120,000 USD. The expected project duration is from December 2024 to December 2026 (24 months).
Outcome
The project aims to advance gender equality and promote civil society and women’s participation in decision making through gender-responsive policies and budgeting processes. Specifically, it seeks to empower women and CSOs to advocate for increased accountability and financing for gender equality.
Eligibility Criteria
Women’s organizations are encouraged to apply individually or as part of a network with other CSOs. Proposals should include a clear statement of objectives, approach, sustainability, and other relevant details.
Competencies
Technical/Functional Competencies Required
- Proven track record in managing national projects, especially those financed by UN or other international development agencies.
- Experience in gender equality, women’s empowerment, and participatory processes.
- Knowledge of the legal and institutional framework on gender equality in North Macedonia.
Requirements for Key Positions
- Project Manager/Team Leader:
- Degree in Public Administration, Law, Economics, Gender Studies, or Social Sciences.
- At least 3 years’ experience in implementing human rights, gender equality, and women’s empowerment programs.
- Experience in project design, monitoring, and evaluation.
- Language qualifications: English and Macedonian.
- Project Assistant:
- Degree in Public Administration, Law, Economics, Gender Studies, or Social Sciences.
- At least 1 year experience in gender equality, women’s empowerment, and participatory processes.
- Experience in organizing events and providing logistical support.
- Language qualifications: English and Macedonian.
- Finance Officer:
- Degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Human Resources, Finance, or related field.
- At least 3 years’ experience in finance management, reporting, and accounting.
- Experience in financial reporting to UN or other international development agencies.
- Language qualifications: English and Macedonian.
