The European Media & Information Fund has launched the Boosting Fact-Checking Activities in Europe call for proposals. This initiative aims to support projects by independent fact-checking organizations that are crucial in combating the negative impacts of disinformation on public discourse and democratic processes.
Call Priorities
The call focuses on two main priority actions:
1. Urgent Actions
Projects should aim to:
- Increase the coverage, depth, and speed of fact-checking activities, particularly during critical events (e.g., elections, public health crises) which may be targets of disinformation campaigns.
- Improve the detection and understanding of disinformation narratives in topical areas such as climate change, economic recovery, immigration, geopolitical issues, and EU policies.
2. Scale-Up Projects
Encouraged projects include:
- Free-lance collaborations within newsrooms or integration of advanced technologies for content verification and media monitoring.
- Structured collaborations with specialist staff (journalists, subject-matter experts, data analysts) to enhance diversity and bring innovative approaches to fact-checking.
- Licensing or acquiring content verification technologies and network analysis tools to improve the efficiency of debunking activities.
