Call for Project: Eureka Globalstars Japan Programme (UK)

Innovate UK is currently accepting applications from UK registered organisations to apply for a share of up to £2 million to develop innovative proposals in partnership with Japan and other participating Eureka countries.

Program Overview

Innovate UK, part of UK Research and Innovation, is investing in collaborative research and development (CR&D) projects focused on industrial research. This competition aims to fund business-led, collaborative R&D projects between the UK, Japan, and other Eureka participating countries. Innovate UK will only fund the UK partners.

Project Focus

Your project must have high market potential and develop at least one of the following:

Innovative products
Technology-based applications
Technology-based services

Funding Information

Innovate UK has allocated up to £2 million to fund UK applicants undertaking innovation projects. UK applicants can apply for total grant funding of up to £600,000 per project.

Ineligible Projects

They will not fund projects that:

Work on non-civilian technologies
Are in the nuclear or pharmaceutical sector
Do not include at least one UK registered business and one eligible Japanese registered SME
Request grants over £600,000
Are dependent on export performance or domestic inputs usage

Who Can Apply?

Your project can last between 12 and 36 months, with a start date expected by 1 June 2025, ending by 31 May 2028. Projects must be collaborative, and no more than 70% of the total eligible project costs can be claimed by a single partner or by all partners from a single Eureka country.

UK Lead Applicant

The UK registered partners must nominate one business to start the Innovate UK application. The UK lead applicant must collaborate with at least one SME from Japan, which must be a separate legal entity.

UK Project Team

The UK lead applicant can collaborate with other UK registered businesses, universities, or research organisations. UK research organisations cannot lead or work alone. Each partner must be invited into the Innovation Funding Service (IFS) to collaborate on the project.

Number of Applications

A UK registered business can lead on one application but collaborate on up to two more. If not leading any application, it can collaborate on up to three. Academic institutions or RTOs can collaborate on any number of applications.
