The Balkan Investigative Reporting Network in Albania (BIRN Albania) is announcing an open call for applications, offering grants to local journalists and researchers to produce in-depth articles on electoral integrity and political discourse in Albania.

Award Information
Selected journalists and researchers will receive a scholarship of 1,500 euros (gross) to cover their expenses while conducting investigations and writing articles. They will have three to five months to develop their research ideas, working closely with experienced editors who will mentor them throughout the process.
Focus Areas
The project aims to contribute to integrity, transparency, and equal competition in Albania’s electoral processes by addressing key challenges, such as:
- Misuse of public funds and public administration during elections.
- Electoral crimes and the role of law enforcement.
- The impact of elections on public administration and its politicization.
- Transparency of political parties' finances during campaigns.
- Involvement of individuals with a criminal past in political parties.
- Misuse of digital/social media, artificial intelligence, and hate speech in political discourse.
- Barriers faced by women and youth in political participation.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must be journalists or researchers from Albania with relevant experience in electoral integrity and political discourse.
- Applicants must be independent and free from conflicts of interest.
- Multiple applications can be submitted, but only one proposal will be selected per candidate.
