Submissions are now open for the Tech Policy Press Fellowship to support five reporting fellows researching and writing on issues related to artificial intelligence (AI) policy, governance, and regulation, with a specific interest in areas where these issues intersect with technology and democracy.

- AI and Data Privacy: Impacts of AI services and products on individual and collective privacy.
- AI Bias and Discrimination: How automated decision-making can perpetuate bias and discrimination and its impact on specific communities.
- AI and Disinformation/Misinformation: Synthetic media and other epistemological issues in information systems, and their impact on public trust, democracy, and elections.
- AI and Intellectual Property: Adapting legal frameworks or developing new ones to address the use of copyrighted materials to train AI models.
- AI and the Future of Work: How AI might reshape education, labor markets, and employment.
- AI and Security: Effects of AI in areas such as law enforcement, national defense, and warfare.
- AI and Competition: Impact of AI technology on consolidated digital markets.
Funding Information
Selected fellows will receive a stipend of $10,000 to support their work.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Research and Writing: Consistently produce analysis and reporting on technology and democracy issues. Develop a focus area or beat within the broader tech policy landscape, and conduct thorough research and reporting.
- Quality and Editorial Standards: Adhere to Tech Policy Press's editorial guidelines and standards, participate in editorial review processes, fact-check all articles, and provide citations.
- Engagement and Collaboration: Attend monthly cohort meetings, draft short monthly progress update reports, and engage in collaboration with other fellows and Tech Policy Press staff.
- Professional Development: Engage in learning opportunities, develop and maintain a network of expert sources, and manage time effectively.
- Ethics and Integrity: Maintain high ethical standards, disclose potential conflicts of interest, and respect the confidentiality of sources and embargoed information.
- Fellowship Completion: Develop a significant body of work, participate in an exit interview, and provide feedback on the fellowship experience.
