Call for Applications: Steve Waugh Foundation Medical Grants (Australia)

The Steve Waugh Foundation is now accepting applications for its medical grants aimed at supporting individuals with rare diseases who are ineligible for support from other organisations in Australia.

Eligible Activities

The Foundation considers funding for the following:

  • Equipment
  • Mobility Aids
  • Communication Devices
  • Therapy
  • Minor home modifications (home must be owned by the Grant Applicant)

Ineligible Activities

The Foundation is unable to provide financial assistance for the following:

  • Purchase of new or used vehicles or their modification
  • Major home modifications/renovations (e.g., swimming pools, spas)
  • Rent, mortgage payments, household utilities, general living expenses
  • Conferences, meetings, travel, accommodation - local and international
  • Costs associated with doctor and specialist appointments and surgeries
  • Research and Clinical Trials
  • Assistance Dogs

Eligibility Criteria

The Steve Waugh Foundation supports children and young adults aged 0-25 years with a rare disease having a prevalence of at least 2:100,000. Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be an Australian Citizen or permanent resident for at least five years.
  • Have a rare disease recognized on ORPHANET or confirmed as rare by a medical specialist.
  • Hold an Australian Medicare card.
  • Have applied for government funding assistance (e.g., NDIS) with documented evidence of approval or decline.
  • Have a formal diagnosis of the rare disease by a Paediatrician or other Medical Specialist.
  • Provide evidence of the diagnosis signed by a Paediatrician or Medical Specialist and any required medical and support documentation.
