The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) is calling for applications to support the integration of shared decision-making (SDM) approaches into healthcare settings. This grant is designed to promote informed patient care decisions in alignment with PCORI's mission.

What is Shared Decision Making?

Shared Decision Making (SDM) is a process where clinicians and patients collaborate to make informed healthcare choices based on available treatment options, risks, and benefits. PCORI defines SDM as an approach that actively engages patients in understanding their care choices and empowers them to participate in decisions that align with their preferences.

Funding Details

The Implementation of Effective SDM Approaches program offers substantial financial support:

  • Grant Amount: Up to $2.5 million in direct costs.
  • Project Duration: 4 years.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this funding opportunity, applicants must propose a project that:

  • Implements a previously tested and proven SDM strategy from a PCORI-funded research project.
  • Incorporates new comparative clinical effectiveness research (CER) evidence into an existing SDM strategy.

Additionally, the Principal Investigator (PI) must either be the lead researcher of the original PCORI-funded project or a member of that research team. The project team is encouraged to include experts in both SDM and implementation.
