The BPS PFA welcomes all investigator-initiated research in patient-centered comparative clinical effectiveness. The following Topic Themes are encouraged but not limited to:

Populations:

  • Improving outcomes for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD)
  • Promoting health for older adults
  • Promoting healthy children and youth

Health Behaviors:

  • Addressing substance use
  • Addressing violence and trauma

Health Conditions:

  • Addressing COVID-19
  • Addressing rare diseases
  • Improving cardiovascular health
  • Improving mental and behavioral health
  • Managing pain
  • Preventing maternal morbidity and mortality (MMM)
  • Promoting sleep health

Special Areas of Emphasis

  • Social Isolation and Loneliness in Older Adults: Testing interventions to address social isolation and loneliness in older adults.
  • Health Communication Strategies for Uptake of COVID-19 Vaccine: Comparing health communication strategies to promote COVID-19 vaccine uptake among U.S. adults and children.
  • Promoting Sleep Health in Inpatient Settings: Addressing sleep disturbance in inpatient settings to improve health outcomes.

Funding Information

  • Category 1: Supports research projects with direct costs up to and including $5 million.
  • Category 2: Supports research projects with direct costs greater than $5 million and up to $12 million, requiring justification of the need for additional funds.
  • Category 3: Supports research projects with direct costs up to $12 million using PCORnet for observational studies and/or pragmatic trials on a national scale.

Eligibility Criteria

Applications may be submitted by academic research entities, private sector research organizations, federal government agencies, nonprofit and for-profit research organizations, and colleges and universities.
