Program Overview

Building on the success of the 2020 initiative, the Amplify Trans Advocacy Fellowship aims to support emerging trans and gender-diverse leaders across Asia and the Pacific. The program includes an online course running from November 2024 to March 2025, focusing on human rights advocacy, narrative changing, and movement organizing.

Aims

  • Amplify and strengthen advocacy ideas, youth activism, and foster intergenerational dialogue on contemporary issues affecting trans and gender-diverse individuals.
  • Change harmful narratives and combat anti-rights movements through storytelling and campaigning.
  • Utilize national and international human rights mechanisms to enhance advocacy work on trans rights.
  • Enhance leadership, movement building, and project management skills for stronger collaboration among trans individuals and allies.
  • Address challenges related to burnout, mental health, and well-being within trans communities.

Benefits

Upon completing the virtual workshops and performance assessments, 16 fellows will receive a fully funded scholarship for a 10-day in-person workshop in Bangkok, Thailand, between March and May 2025. Additionally, selected fellows may receive:

  • A seed grant to implement their proposed interventions, with guidance and technical support from APTN.
  • A fully sponsored trip to regional and international human rights conferences.
  • Internship opportunities with APTN and partner organizations working on trans issues.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Between 18 to 35 years old.
  • Identify as trans and/or non-binary.
  • Reside and work in Asia and Pacific countries.
  • Staff members or volunteers from APTN’s partner organizations are eligible, but direct implementers of APTN projects or grants must declare any conflicts of interest.
  • Available for 6 virtual training sessions and the 10-day in-person workshop in Bangkok.
  • Strong command of written and spoken English.
  • Demonstrated engagement with trans rights activism and advocacy. New activists should include a statement on applying their acquired skills in their community.
