Applications are now open for fellowships to the GRÓ Land Restoration Training Programme (LRT) for 2 fellows from African biosphere reserves engaged in restoration activities.
Programme Overview
The GRÓ LRT Fellowship offers a six-month training program in Iceland, focusing on land restoration and sustainable land management. The training is hosted at the Agricultural University of Iceland. The fellowship is open to individuals working on restoration projects in African biosphere reserves, aligning with the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021-2030).
Training Details
- First 12 weeks: Course work including introductory courses, specialized training, practical fieldwork, and field trips.
- Latter 12 weeks: Fellows work on individual projects tailored to their background and the needs of their workplace.
- Upon successful completion, fellows receive a Postgraduate Diploma in Ecosystem Restoration and Sustainable Land Management (30 ECTS) from the Agricultural University of Iceland.

- Travel and health insurance
- Stipend to cover living expenses during the 6-month stay in Iceland
Eligibility Criteria
- The candidate’s institution must approve a full study leave for the six-month period.
- The candidate must hold a relevant university degree (e.g. Ecology, Environmental Management, Natural Sciences).
- The candidate must have at least one year of experience working in biosphere reserve ecosystem restoration.
- Proficiency in English (spoken and written) is required.
- The candidate must be under 40 years of age.
