About AfriFOODLinks
AfriFOODlinks seeks to create a favourable environment for improving food security and urban sustainability in African cities. The program focuses on:
- Transforming urban food environments and encouraging healthy and sustainable diets.
- Promoting inclusive governance involving public officials, small businesses, communities, youth, and women in food systems structuring.
- Accelerating the growth of agribusinesses led by women and youth, supporting local value creation and economic participation.
The project, funded by the European Union, addresses food insecurity in African countries by investing in sustainable innovation and enhancing value chains in the food ecosystem.
Proposed Program
The program offers personalized support across three stages, providing entrepreneurs with opportunities to develop their business ideas through expert guidance and mentorship. Participants will also have the chance to expand their professional networks and attend blended learning sessions, including both face-to-face and online components.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Age Requirement: 18 to 65 years old.
- Status: Priority given to women, youth, and individuals without permanent employment, especially those in vulnerable situations.
- Industry Relevance: The business or idea must be related to agribusiness, such as:
- Food production (agriculture, fishing, or livestock) with sustainable practices.
- Food processing (manufacturing or preserving food products).
- Food distribution (logistics, retail, or delivery).
- Catering services (restaurants, street food, or catering).
- Food innovation (new products, methods, or technologies for sustainability or health).
- Development Stage: The business can be at the idea, initial, or expansion stage.
- Motivation: Strong commitment to the importance of the agri-food sector.
- Social Impact: The business must demonstrate potential for positive community or environmental impact, such as:
- Supporting local economies and creating jobs.
- Promoting sustainable practices and reducing food waste.
- Applying circular economy principles.
- Innovation: Solutions to food sector challenges that introduce new or improved products, services, or processes.
- Scalability: The business should have the potential for growth and expansion.
