The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is launching the Australia Awards Fellowship programs, offering a unique opportunity to highlight Australia's modern diversity and the rich heritage of First Nations people to participating Fellows from partner countries.

Priority Areas
Fellowship proposals must align with one of the following six priority areas:
- Climate Change, Adaptation, Resilience, and Green Energy: Includes climate adaptation, resilience, climate science, energy transition, and nature-based solutions.
- Health: Covers areas like communicable and non-communicable diseases, mental health, sexual and reproductive health, health system strengthening, and pandemic response.
- Gender Equality, Disability Equity, and Social Inclusion: Focuses on gender equality, women’s empowerment, disability equity, legal and regulatory reform, and related issues.
- Digital Economy, Cyber Resilience, and Media Engagement: Encompasses digital economy development, cyber capacity building, media sector viability, and digital storytelling.
- Maritime and the Blue Economy: Focuses on maritime cooperation, environmental management, blue economy development, and sustainable maritime supply chains.
- Infrastructure and Connectivity: Includes skills and relationships needed for developing and managing quality infrastructure, telecommunications, clean energy, and more.
Funding Information
Successful applicants will receive up to $517,500 per Fellowship proposal. The maximum amount per individual Fellow is $34,500, including in-country activities program overhead fees.
Duration
Fellowships range from a minimum of two weeks to a maximum of 52 weeks, with at least two weeks spent in Australia. Travel time to and from Australia is not included in the minimum duration.
Geographic Focus
The program is open to participants from the following regions:
- Southeast Asia: Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam
- South Asia and Middle East: Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Iraq, Jordan, Maldives, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Occupied Palestinian Territories, and Sri Lanka
- Pacific: Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, and Wallis and Futuna
- Africa: Botswana, Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe
- Caribbean: Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Suriname
- Europe: Ukraine
Eligibility Criteria
Australian organisations such as government institutions, businesses, and non-government organisations are eligible to apply. Organisations must be legal entities with an Australian Business Number and demonstrate links with partner organisations in participating countries. Individuals cannot apply.
All nominated Fellows must:
- Be a minimum of 18 years old at the time of commencing the Fellowship
- Not hold Australian permanent resident status or apply for permanent residency
- Be a citizen of and residing in an eligible developing country
- Not be current serving military personnel
- Not be married, engaged, or in a de facto relationship with a person who holds, or is eligible to hold, Australian or New Zealand citizenship or permanent residency
