About the ACLS Fellowship Program
The American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) is excited to invite applications for its prestigious Fellowship Program, designed for scholars across all disciplines within the humanities and interpretive social sciences. This opportunity is ideal for scholars at various stages of their careers, with a special focus on early-career researchers.
In the 2024-25 competition cycle, ACLS will award up to 60 fellowships. The program aims to support a diverse range of research topics, ensuring representation across all humanistic fields. The goal is to foster academic excellence and inclusivity, supporting groundbreaking research in any time period or world region.
Funding and Support
The fellowship offers a generous stipend of $60,000 for a 12-month term. For shorter durations, the award will be prorated at $5,000 per month, with a minimum award set at $30,000. Additionally, ACLS provides supplementary funds ranging from $3,000 to $6,000 to cover research-related costs, including access to workshops, conferences, health insurance, and more.
Fellowships can start between July 1, 2025, and July 1, 2026, with a completion deadline of December 31, 2026. This support allows scholars to dedicate six to twelve months to full-time research and writing.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the ACLS Fellowship Program, applicants must:
- Be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or eligible foreign national residing in the U.S. or its territories for at least three years before the application deadline.
- Hold a Ph.D. in the humanities or interpretive social sciences, or demonstrate equivalent professional experience.
- Commit to six to twelve months of full-time research and/or writing during the fellowship term, starting between July 1, 2025, and July 1, 2026.
