The Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) is providing travel grants to reinforce the Center's efforts and resources in accelerating transformation through agricultural innovation (ATTAIN) and become a leading enabler and champion of excellence in agricultural and rural development.

Program Overview
In response to changes brought about by COVID-19, SEARCA has modified its Travel Grants Program (STGP) starting in fiscal year 2021-2022. The program now accepts applications for participation in scientific events held online to support continued discourse and information dissemination relevant to agriculture and rural development (ARD) in this new normal.
Objectives
- Provide opportunities for Southeast Asian nationals to present papers at ATTAIN-relevant scientific conferences and fora.
- Promote the dissemination of scientific knowledge and information critical to agricultural innovation.
- Facilitate networking and partnerships between SEARCA or the applicant's home institution and other development organizations and donors.
- Encourage discussions on recent developments with scientists, researchers, and university faculty.
- Produce articles or publications from the grantee's presented paper, whenever feasible.
Focus Areas
The paper should align with SEARCA’s priority thrusts under its 11th Five-Year Plan (FY 2020/2021 – 2024/2025), including:
- Agri-Business Models for Increased Productivity and Income
- Sustainable Farming Systems and Natural Resource Management
- Food and Nutrition Security
- Transformational Leadership for Agricultural and Rural Development (ARD)
- Gender and Youth Engagement in ARD
- Enhanced ARD towards Climate Resilience
- EcoHealth/One Health Applications to ARD
Funding Information
Travel grants are available for up to a maximum of USD 1,200.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must present scientific papers at international or local conferences and fora, either face-to-face or online. In some cases, attendance without paper presentations may be considered if it results in establishing formal linkages, collaborations, and impacts on the Center.
Priority 1
- SEARCA fellows (senior, adjunct, and visiting fellows)
- SEARCA Graduate scholarship alumni
- Researchers of SEARCA-implemented/coordinated projects
- SFRT grantees
- Proponents from the University Consortium (faculty, staff, and graduate students)
- SEARCA ongoing scholars
- Faculty and staff of universities under SEARCA's Institutional Development Assistance Program
Priority 2
- Southeast Asian citizens who are regular staff members of non-profit development-oriented institutions or graduate students at other agricultural universities in the region may apply if not enough qualified applications are received under Priority 1.
Qualified countries include: Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam.
