Purpose

This grant aims to provide funding for assets that support communities at risk of isolation during emergencies, ensuring they have access to resources when primary evacuation centers cannot be reached. Establishing safety and meeting practical needs will help reduce distress and support long-term recovery in isolated communities.

• Negative impacts of disasters on isolated communities are reduced through the provision of resources that establish electricity and communication channels.

Funding Information

Grants between $5,000 and $40,000 are available per isolated community. Funding can be used to purchase physical resources and equipment that support disaster resilience, such as:

• Storage facilities
• Batteries and solar panels
• Generators
• Charging devices
• Emergency lighting
• Radios
• Mobile reception boosters
• Other assets that meet the basic needs of isolated communities during emergencies

Eligibility Criteria

• Applicants must be Tasmanian local government authorities (Councils).
• Councils must have signed the LGAT Protocol for Inter-Council Emergency Management Resource Sharing 2018 or commit to signing it during the project period.
• Councils are responsible for all costs associated with storing, maintaining, and replacing the resources and equipment.
• Funded assets must be listed on the Local Government Recovery Resources Asset Register, which should be kept up to date.
• Community groups can develop project proposals in partnership with Councils.
