CORDAP is committed to creating impact through innovation, aiming for transformational discoveries and improvements in coral conservation and restoration. Projects should include end-users and stakeholders, and apply across various disciplines. Technologies, methods, and processes developed will support coral conservation efforts worldwide.
Core Principles
- Ensuring Local Community Benefits: Solutions must be affordable and accessible to those in need.
- Global Inclusivity: Teams must include organizations from at least two countries, one being a low or middle-income country.
- Open Source Solutions: Intellectual property resulting from funded activities will be available under a public license.

Types of Projects
- Novel R&D Projects: Development and implementation of new tools, technologies, methods, or interventions for coral protection and restoration.
- Improving Existing Interventions: Significant improvements to existing technologies or methods.
- Translation R&D: Adapting technologies or interventions to different contexts.
- Foundation Science: Addressing critical gaps in fundamental knowledge that impact restoration and adaptation programs.
- R&D Capacity Development: Supporting local innovation and technology training to scale up ongoing efforts.
Funding Information
Successful applicants will receive funding up to USD $1.5 million per project. The award term ranges from 12 to 36 months.
Eligibility Criteria
- Each application must include a minimum of three applicants: one Lead Applicant and at least two Co-Applicants.
- Organizations from at least two countries, with one being a low or middle-income country.
- Lead Applicants can only submit one proposal and participate in up to two additional proposals as Co-Applicants.
- Organizations can be the Lead Organization on a maximum of two proposals.
- Eligible organizations include not-for-profit and for-profit organizations, higher education institutions, research institutes, and government organizations.
- For-profit organizations must co-invest to avoid making a profit.
- If research occurs in a third country, representation from that country is encouraged.
