Purpose
The Community Fellows Program by The University of Melbourne aims to foster research that leads to positive outcomes such as improved service delivery, the development of new services, enhanced advocacy capabilities, or improved capacity for future research projects.
Funding Information
Grants of $7,000 are available to community-based organisations to compensate them for the time Fellows spend working on their research projects.
Expectations
Fellows are expected to actively participate in the research training provided, which includes an intensive three-day orientation and training program. Additionally, Fellows should engage with their cohort and participate in a mid-term work-in-progress workshop.
Eligibility Criteria
- Your organisation was not awarded a Community Fellowship in the 2023/2024 cohort.
- Your organisation's head/department supports your application and possible participation in the program.
- You are an employee with valid working rights in Australia (volunteers are not eligible).
- Your organisation is a small to medium-sized community organisation (up to 199 employees).
- Your organisation is incorporated and holds insurance with $10 million public liability and $2 million professional indemnity insurance.
- You are based in Victoria and able to attend the University’s Parkville campus for the three-day orientation on 12, 13, and 14 February 2025, and other events throughout the year.
- You can commit 200 to 350 hours of work on the project, including cohort-based activities.
Ineligibility Criteria
- Applicants with substantive research positions and/or PhDs are not suitable as Community Fellows.
- Organisations with in-house research or evaluation capacity are not usually eligible.
- Fellows from local, state, or federal government departments are not eligible, though projects from Victorian government schools supporting community-focused initiatives will be considered.
