Applications Open for Rogers Indigenous Film Fund Program (Canada)

The Rogers Indigenous Film Fund (RIFF) Program is now accepting applications to provide financing assistance for the early development work of new or existing film projects. This program supports emerging, early, and mid-career Indigenous filmmakers and creatives.

Funding Information

First-time applicants who have not previously received a RIFF Program grant can apply for funding between $5,000 and $20,000.

Project Eligibility

Eligible projects are those focused on the early development phase, including:

  • Research
  • Community Engagement & Consultation
  • First Draft
  • Re-write
  • Treatment
  • Outline
  • Polish/Packaging
  • Demo-Tape

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must be Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, or Inuit) and meet the following experience requirements:

  • Emerging: At least 2 years of experience and 2 professional credits.
  • Early-Career: At least 3 years of experience and 3 professional credits.
  • Mid-Career: At least 4 years of experience and 4 professional credits.

Professional credits must be associated with film projects outside of school projects. Examples of eligible roles include Director, Executive Producer, Screenwriter, Casting Director, Producer, Creative Director, Story Writer, and Principal Cast.

Eligibility Definitions

Indigenous refers to:

  • First Nations: Status and non-status individuals connected to a self-governing band or reserve-based community.
  • Metis: Registered with provincial and/or national Metis organizations.
  • Inuit: Recognized as the First Peoples of the Arctic regions of Canada, including Nunavut, Nunavik, Nunatsiavut, and parts of the Northwest Territories.
