The Record in BC program, part of Amplify BC and funded by the Province of British Columbia, is now accepting applications. This initiative aims to support the growth and sustainability of B.C.’s music industry by attracting out-of-province and international artists to record in B.C.
Program Objectives
- Increase economic activity and earning potential for B.C. studios, recording professionals, and music companies.
- Attract national and international business to B.C.’s recording industry.
- Support a diverse range of artists, including those from systemically excluded groups.
Funding Information
Grant Amounts: $10,000 - $30,000
Recipients must spend a minimum of $20,000 on their project to remain eligible for funding.
Eligible Activities
This program supports established out-of-province and international artists coming to record at a B.C. recording studio or engaging remotely. Eligible projects include singles, EPs, and LPs in original music or interpretations of existing music. Note: This program does not support songwriting, commissions, or creation of new works prior to recording.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Artists must live outside B.C. (more than 50% of band/group members must be non-B.C. residents).
- Artists must be established, with substantial earnings from music-related activities (recommended minimum of $30,000 CAD/year).
- Must have industry support, media exposure, a body of commercially released work, and a substantial audience.
- Applications must be submitted by a business (e.g., artist’s music company or record label). Managers, studios, or production companies can support but not apply directly.
Recording Business Criteria
- Be a legal entity in British Columbia or Canada.
- Have an established history of recording and producing commercial releases.
- Be active and have recorded music with various clients within the past 12 months.
