The European Science Foundation (ESF) is inviting applications for the Fight Kids Cancer (FKC) Program, aimed at addressing the lack of research dedicated to paediatric cancers by sustainably supporting the best European research.
Objectives
The Fight Kids Cancer programme seeks to:
- Improve survival rates and reduce treatment toxicity to restore young patients to full health after treatment
- Advance cutting-edge science and further knowledge on paediatric malignancies
- Support interdisciplinary research and collaborations for tackling current issues
- Strengthen scientific capacity and collaboration across Europe
FKC aims to foster closer working ties between basic, translational, and clinical researchers, encouraging novel and impactful research projects.
Types of Projects
Projects are expected to propose research on either:
- Early Phase Clinical Trials: Evaluating innovative therapies for children and adolescents with cancer. Key elements include the availability of investigational drugs, efficient trial designs, and a focus on improving quality of life. Trials must be conducted in at least two European countries.
- Translational Research: Addressing childhood and adolescent cancers by identifying novel targets or mechanisms, developing new therapies, leveraging paediatric tumour models, and including a clear pathway to clinical trials. Multi-disciplinary collaborations are encouraged.
Funding Information and Project Duration
Funding limits and project durations are as follows:
- Up to €5 million for early phase clinical trials projects (up to 5 years)
- Up to €2 million for translational research projects (up to 4 years)
