What is the ALC Scholarship?

The ALC (African Laser Centre) Scholarship/Bursary Support program, managed by the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), offers funding to stimulate groundbreaking research and technology development in lasers and their applications. The initiative is recognized as an AU-NEPAD Flagship Programme and works to foster local, continental, and global partnerships.

Key Benefits of the ALC Scholarship

  • Master’s Level: R90,000 per annum, for up to two years.
  • Doctoral Level: R120,000 per annum, for up to three years.

This scholarship provides a unique opportunity for African students to pursue postgraduate degrees at South African universities in fields related to lasers and laser applications.

Eligibility Criteria

The ALC Scholarship is open to:

  • Master’s and doctoral students across Africa wishing to pursue studies in laser and laser-related disciplines at South African universities.
  • Students involved in ongoing, funded ALC collaboration projects will be given preference.
